Armenian Presentation of the Book "Essays on the Armenian Genocide" at the AGMI

19.05.2026

On May 19, the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute (AGMI) hosted the presentation of a quadrilingual collection featuring the works of the finalists from an essay competition held on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The competition was organized through a joint initiative by the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, Uruguay's National Administration of Public Education, and the AGBU Uruguay branch.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of Uruguay to Armenia, Silvana Lesca Barolin, the Director of the Educational Department of the AGBU Uruguay branch, Javier Poladian, as well as representatives from the educational and cultural sectors.

During the event, Hrachya Tashchyan, the Acting Director of the AGMI, delivered opening remarks, emphasizing how vital it is for the younger generation to take an interest in the history of their people and ancestors. He noted that it is inspiring to see how young people strive to uncover the past and preserve the memory of the Armenian Genocide. The Director also highlighted the participation of Uruguayan youth. He mentioned that Uruguay’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide as early as 1965 is a testament to the dedication of that country and its people to humanistic values, human rights, and historical justice. "Today, when consumerist values often prevail in the world, through initiatives like this, we highlight the role and significance of spiritual and moral values in our lives," Tashchyan stressed.

The essay competition was first held last year in Uruguay, and this year it was also held in Armenia. High school students from Armenia and Uruguay participated in the contest by submitting written essays, videos, and concluding speeches. The works of all the participants who reached the final stage have been included in the published quadrilingual collection.
