On May 20, a delegation led by Stéphane Beaudet, Vice-President of the Île-de-France region of France, visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial, accompanied by the French Ambassador to Armenia, Olivier Decottignies.
The guests were welcomed by Hrachya Tashchyan, Acting Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute (AGMI). Hasmik Martirosyan, a Francophone guide at the AGMI, accompanied the French delegation to the Memorial and presented the history of its construction.
Mr. Stéphane Beaudet laid a wreath at the monument eternalizing the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide, after which the other members of the delegation placed flowers at the Eternal Flame and honored the memory of the innocent martyrs with a minute of silence.
The guests then approached the Memory Wall, which houses small urns filled with soil taken from the graves of several intellectuals, political, and public figures who raised their voices in protest against the Armenian Genocide. Guide Hasmik Martirosyan shared their stories with the guests, drawing special attention to the pro-Armenian activities of French figures Anatole France and Louis Dartige du Fournet.
The delegation also toured the Armenian Genocide Museum, and at the end of the visit, Mr. Stéphane Beaudet made an entry in the Memory Book for Honorable Guests.
