“TESTIMONIES OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IN PHOTOS AND DOCUMENTARIES” TEMPORARY EXHIBITION IN NICOSIA

04.04.2015

An exhibition devoted to the Armenian Genocide has opened on April 3, 2015 in Nicosia, the capital city of Cyprus. An opening speech was delivered by the President of the RA NA, Galust Sahakyan and the President of the Cypriot House of Representatives, Yiannakis Omirou.

Galust Sahakyan expressed his gratitude to the President of the Cypriot House of Representatives, Yiannakis Omirou, the representative of the Armenian community in Cyprus, MP Vardges Mahtesian, the Directorate of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute and all those who had contributed to the organization of the exhibition.

On his part, the President of the Cypriot House of Representatives, Yiannakis Omirou mentioned: “The civilized world is not apathetic toward the horrible crimes committed against the humanity. The international press condemned Turkey’s respective demeanor even back in the last decade of the 19th century. This is evidenced by the French, Italian, British, American, Russian and Cypriot publications presented in this exhibition. Foreign officials working in the Ottoman Empire informed their respective governments about the incidents, with many expressing their protest against the Turkish authorities. The testimonies of those people, the photos representing those horrific scenes were further published in newspapers or memoirs, and now they are precious archival items and vivid evidences of the Turkish horrible barbarities”.

“Testimonies of the Armenian Genocide in Photos and Documentaries” exhibition materials are provided by the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute.
